Working to end experiments on animals!
We believe that results based upon animal experiments and studies cannot, with ANY degree of safety or accuracy, be extrapolated to illness or diseases found in humans, rather the "findings" become a tragedy of errors. Animal tests can and do result in extremely dangerous and deadly side effects to humans! Here are a just few examples...

ANIMAL TEST RESULTS - WOULD YOU TRUST THEM WITH YOUR LIFE?

Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) Infection
Seven cases of CJD (similar to "Mad Cow" disease) caused by transplanted tissue have occurred in Britain in the past 33 years, a study suggests. All were caused by transplanted dura mater, the outermost membrane covering the brain and spinal cord, which is used by surgeons to repair the skull and spine and to reinforce tendons and ligaments. A team led by Richard Knight of the National CJD Surveillance Unit at Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, published the findings online in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry. CJD arose between 4 and 15 years after surgery and was traced to one German supplier in six cases. In the seventh, the source was traced to pig tissue - the first time that pigs have been identified as a source of CJD. Such transmission is rare, the authors say.

Clioquinol
Even though animal research protocols revealed differently, a drug named Clioquinol (sold under 160 different brand names) as a cure for diarrhea was released onto the market in 1979 in Japan. Later a Tokyo court established that those drugs not only had no therapeutic value whatsoever they had actually CAUSED diarrhea and were responsible for thousands of deaths and the cause of more than 30,000 cases of blindness or paralysis in Japan alone (with more worldwide)! Eraldin/Practocol
Practolol was marketed in 1970 as beneficial for angina pectoris, highblood pressure and disorders of heart rhythm, including coronary thrombosis. After 4 years and after occasional reports of skin rashes being observed, ICI Chemicals became aware that a small portion of patients produced a most bizarre syndrome which could embrace the skin, eyes, inner ear and peritoneal cavity. Most patients became blind. The Committee on Safety of Medicines (UK) which assessed the drug had pronounced itself satisfied with the drug's experimental and early clinical toxicity record. Tequin
Public reports indicate that Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) is warning against the use of the antibiotic drug Tequin in diabetic patients after reports of several fatalities. The company is adding a warning for diabetics to the drug's label as well as strengthening its warning that Tequin can cause both low and high blood sugar levels in patients, the FDA said. TGN 1412
In March 2006 six men suffered extremely life threatening illness after 3 hours of a 15 day trial of the drug TGN 1412 a potential new medicine for inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and leukaemia. The trials were conducted at an independent research unit within the Northwick Park Hospital campus, in northwest London where all men had suffered multiple organ failure leaving two men fighting for their lives. Some of the symptoms included "extreme" difficulty breathing, severe head and neck swellings (3 times normal size) and limbs turning purple. The drug developed by TeGenero AG had been tested extensively on animals by Parexel without any incidents being reported.
Thalidomide
Introduced onto the world market in October 1957 by the pharmaceutical company, Chemie Grunenthal, as a sedative for pregnant women to relieve the effects of morning sickness. It was marketed under varying names throughout Europe, Asia and Africa and was boasted to have conquered 40% of the tranquiliser market, with animal experiments giving "negative results". However, even after more than 10,000 babies were either stillborn or born with missing limbs, deformed eyes and ears the drug was not withdrawn from sale! In December 1970 after longest criminal trial in Germany's judicial history, Chemie Grunenthal, was acquitted after a long line of medical authorities testified that the generally accepted animal tests could never be conclusive for human beings. This drug is STILL being sold to third world countries. Source: "Slaughter of the Innocent" by Hans Reusch
Vioxx
A top-selling painkiller, Vioxx was pulled off the market in autumn 2004, after results from a clinical study showed that the drug doubled the risk of stroke and heart attack in humans. Merck, the drug's manufacturer, eager to keep a profitable drug on the market decided to rely on tests showing that Vioxx was safe in mice, rats, and monkeys, while ignoring mounting evidence that the drug was dangerous to humans. It is estimated that 140,000 Americans developed heart and vascular disease after taking Vioxx. Source: Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM)
Zyprexa/Olanzapine
At least 8000 people have developed Diabetes or Hyperglycemia after using the popular antipsychotic medication, Zyprexa (olanzapine) (approved for the short-term treatment of bipolar mania, where it acts as a mood stabilizer). Manufacturer Eli Lilly has been ordered to pay $US700M to settle existing suits from people who have developed Diabetes or Hyperglycemia. In addition, published reports indicate that as far back to the 1950’s, studies tied the use of Zyprexa and similar drugs to increased risk of diabetes, pancreatitis, hyperglycemia and other serious conditions. In a report by the European Medicines Agency "No risk to public or animal health was identified ..."Source: Alexander, Hawes & Audet, LLP (www.alexanderlaw.com) and European Medicines Agency 'Sampling and Testing of Centrally Authorised Products Annual Report 2004
